What have I been up to???

I cannot believe how long it has been since I posted. I tell you Christmas seems to really take it of me. Don't get me wrong, it is definitely my favorite time year but it does put my focus on things that are far from my computer.

Friday we started shipping February's kits to stores and I realized that I hadn't even shared January's designs with you, so here you go...

For 2012 I am releasing 2 kits each month, and then a few extra's sprinkled here and there.

This is my new 12" flange pillow, There's No Friend Like a Snow Friend. There is an opening in the back to do the stitching through and it and when you are finished just smoosh in your 9" pillow form and wah-la you are done!

Baby' it's Cold Outside is a 7 x 9 pillow, a new size for Pine Mountain. Stitch it up on cool tropical blue 14 ct aida and slip it in the finished pillow. Easy-peasy.

I deerly love Valentines don't you. Aaah, reminds me there will be an end to winter and also, My cutie patootie daughter's Bday is the day before Valentine's so it really is a LOVEly day in our house! Oh and there's one more reason I love this holiday, I LOVE PINK!!!! Pink clothes, pink candy, pink walls, fabric, jewelry, cars, pink quilts--be still my heart. I truly believe that just about anything looks better pink!

Ta-Ta-For-Now, I'm on to stitch March's designs and watch Downton Abbey on Netflix. Doesn't get much better than that!

'The Tale of Three Trees' Tutorial

Once upon a mountain top, three little trees stood and dreamed of what they wanted to become when they grew up. The first little tree looked up at the stars and said......

That is the start of one of my favorite books for Christmas, really it is such a beautiful folktale for any time. If you have not read this book - please do, it will inspire and uplift you.

And today, in honor of one of my favorite books I hope you enjoy my gift to you, the paper piece pattern 'Three Trees"

I love the odd angles of the trees, and the folk art affect of the quilting.

Download and print pattern.
Paper piece project using pattern provided, white background, and three different green fabrics. (See tutorial below if you are unfamiliar with paper piecing)

Sandwich paper pieced top, batting and background fabric.
Draw lines for tree trunks.

Chain stitch trunks using 2 ply brown floss.

Using 2 ply red floss quilt a running stitch through all layers along each seam as illustrated.

Frame, make an ornament, mug rug, or small pillow.

If you are not familiar with paper pieceing - here is a fabulous tutorial found on Youtube.

100 Blocks Blog Tour!

Hello All! I was so excited to be asked by the great people at Quiltmaker magazine to submit a block for their fabulous 100 Blocks collectors edition magazine. And here's my block!

I decided to do a Little Laundry with one of my dimensional dresses hanging on the line.

This block was of course inspired by my Laundry Day quilt.

Just like the piles of laundry in my laundry room, this quilt may seem a bit intimidating. But why not take it one small batch at a time, like this darling dress and see how good it feels.

Here I chose to simply my laundry even more and simply applique the dress dress using fabrics from the new Ruby fabric line. I finished the appliqued piece framed in a charming 8x10 frame with a matt of jumbo white ric rack.

I hope you enjoy my Little Laundry block. Now to the good stuff!!!

Wonky WIP

Here is what I am working on today. I finished the applique, embroidery and piecing for Wonky Winter and now I'm on to the quilting.

I do the quilting on my little Bernina. The key is taking it slow. That's a bit of a challenge for me but I am really enjoying this process. Actually, I enjoy every process in the Wonky series. A bit of piecing, wonky style of course, a bit of applique, just the right amount of embroidery and hello, hexagons - Love 'em.

Hope you have a great weekend - I'm off to start preparations for tonights family Halloween party at my sister Sherie's.

Last year my Little Bit of Boo quilt was published in the Quilt Sampler magazine and I decided to give it a new twist.....

A peppermint twist that is.... I have designed a new group of Christmas embroidery designs to combine with Riley Blake's Christmas Candy fabric line. Using the same pattern as Little Bit of Boo this embroidery group is titled Little Bit of Christmas. Pine Needles will be offering the embroidery patterns FREE - watch their blog for details coming soon.

Also ready to head off to the quilter is a new Christmas table runner.....any suggestions on a name??

I just checked my blog and was shocked that I had forgot to post a picture of my July cross-stitch designs. do you remember when you were in kindergarten and they would pin a note to your shirt so you would be sure to give it to your mom? Well, maybe I need to start doing that myself. I am sure my husband and daughter would see it and help me remember.

Oops, sorry I'm late. I said I would post my new designs yesterday but I got to take the day and play with one of my FAVORITE quilt designers Kellie of Don't Look Now. I don't see a trip to Australia in the near future so I am relishing every minute spent learning from this talented Aussie!

I hope the new designs remind you of fun days of Summer. Picnics, days at the beach or pool side, ice cream, watermelon and sunshine! Aah - I can't wait.

Coming up for Air!

I finally came up for air after preparing for and exhibiting at International Quilt Market. It may have seemed that I have been out of touch but actually I was just locked up in my sewing room furiously working to get it all done and now I get to share!

Give it a Whirl is a fun and versatile pattern which includes a Layer Cake version, shown above using Moda's Just Wing It, and a miniature version using a charm pack of Riley Blake's new Trick-or-Treat fabric.

X's and O's pattern uses a slingle charm pack, a bit of white and a border print. This is an easy sew full of character. (shown using Moda's Oasis)

Charming Corners is made using either a Charm Pack for the title quilt or a Candy Bar for the simplified version Candy Bar Corners which uses a single border print. If you are not familiar with Candy Bar's they are Moda's version of a sweet treat including 40 2 1/2" x 5" rectangles.

I seriouisly had so much fun making these two quilts! I love hexagons but I am short on the patience to make a grandmothers flower garden quilt so the band of hexagons in the sky was the perfect taste for me. Obviously if you know me at all you know I love embroidery and so the flowers are simple raw edge applique centers with embroidered petals and leaves! The wonky log cabin blocks are where they get their names. These are just the first two in a four season series.

Finally I have my first Wearable pattern Off the Cuff. Included are four different fabric cuff patterns. These trendy cuffs are as fun to make as they are to wear!

All Dolled Up In Salt Lake City

I am excited to finally be able to start talking about something fun that has been in the works. You see, we are lucky in our neck of the woods because Spring International Quilt Market is being held in Salt Lake City. To add to all the market fun 30 Utah designers have banded together to create a Booth Hop called All Dolled Up in Salt Lake City! There will be prizes created by each of the designers as well as two quilts begin given away containing unique doll blocks created by each of the designers! And, there will be free patterns for each doll block. So, get ready market attendees and come get all dolled up with us!

Her skirt is gathered then appliqued for a 3D affect complete with under slip, bitty buttons and rick rack trim accent her dress top and her facial features are hand embroidered. This is my doll that will be included in the quilt.....stop by the booth to see what I do with the one there!

Waiting to Ship, In the Works, and On the Wall!

I can't believe I have been home for a whole week and back in the swing of things. I just finished the postcards to send to my retail store customers showing my new April cross-stitch designs. We will start shipping them to stores later this week so watch for them soon.

Cross-stitch isn't all I have been up to. I have a quilt in the works

and one on the design wall

Quilt market is only 2 months away and I have miles to go before I sleep. I also have a fun embroidery project in the works. I started it on the flight to Galvestan where we left for our cruise and even worked on it while laying on the beach in Roatan, Honduras. Worked on it again last night while watching the movie RED with my husband. I have to have a project to work on while watching TV at night or I am lights out! I can't wait to share this one with you, but it will have to wait - it's a large project and I have hours of stitching left.

Taking a Break

I have been busy working on creations for Spring Quilt Market and March's cross-stitch releases (which are actually April designs) but today, thanks to my dear husband, Randy, I am heading to the sunshine! Several of my sisters (I have 6), my Mom, and various other family members have been planning a cruise and last week Randy surprised me by telling me I was going with them! To be honest I have a bit of a knot in my stomach about leaving Randy and my daughter Kaylee behind, but I will not be sad to leave my snow covered lawn. So with my stitching bag in hand (can't go anywhere without a project) I am off!

I'm Back!

I am back from one of my favorite events of the year, HQNA winterfest. We spend 4 beautiful days at Daniels Summit lodge where we were treated to classes taught by fabulous local teachers as well as Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosies Quilts.

This is the project I taught in my Mystery Stitches class. I pre-sewed the bags so that we could get to the good stuff in class opf perfecting the basic and then decorative embroidery stitches used. By the time I had sewed my 36th bag I felt like I could make them in my sleep. I had the best group of women in my class, many that join me year after year, along with a great group of newbies!

I have been spending A LOT of time in my sewing room this week.

I designed a new quilt.....Love Line. The quilt is being quilted today by Chelsea and I CANNOT WAIT to show you the finished quilt! Here is a little sneak peak....

I have also been working endlessly sewing for the students in my Mystery Stitches class at Winterfest. Only 4 days to go so today I am on my 12th hour of sewing, with a little break for lunch. At this point I am pleading, please, someone remind me why I do this to myself, but then I am there with all the wonderful women and instructors and I know why.

FEBRUARY is ready to go

I just LOVE February. One, because after a long winter I look forward to changing out the decore to the happy Pink and Red of the season of love, and two, because it is the month of my only child Kaylee's birthday! I rarely have any of my own stitching in the house because it is displayed in my store but I am making a second model of Love Whoo You Are to give to Kaylee. I can't think of any better advice for her.

New Cross-Stitch kits for 2011

You can find my new cross-stitch kits for 2011 in stores now! Each month for 2011 I will be releasing 3 cross-stitch designs, a Rick Rack Row kit, a small pillow kit, and a frame up kit. I hope you like!

Last night I stitched the new February small pillow and am working on the Rick Rack Row kit as I write this. I have got to get it in gear because I teach at a HQNA Winterfest, a quilt retreat, in 3 weeks and there is much to do to prepare the class project. I am really excited about this years retreat because one of my favorite quilt designers Carrie Nelson (aka Miss Rosies Quilts) will be teaching as well. She is so much fun!

December Cross Stitch & Embroidery is in the stores

Friday we finished shipping my new cross stitch, embroidery and punch needle designs to the stores across the country. I'm kind of sad to see that with December I have wrapped up another year of designs. Now it's time to put my thinking cap, or design cap, on and decide what to plan for next year.

Preparing for Quilt Market is always such a hectic time, but once I am there and the booth is set up it is time to just enjoy the experience......

Well, almost time....first there is time spent in the hotel room packaging kits for sample spree. My sweet mom sewed all the pinwheels for theSample Spree Slice of Style pin cushion kits. If you have never had the pleasure of experiecing sample spree, just picture Walmart at 5am the day after Thanksgiving.

My seasonal pin cushions have been so popular but I wanted to do one that could be sit in my sewing studio all year long. That was the inspiration for Slice of Style. Embroidered dress forms and cheery fabrics would surely brighten your creative space as well.

Deck The Walls

The inspiration for the color pallet of Deck The Walls is Dr. Seuss' Whooville. I love the lime greens, cheery reds, pinks and turquoise. It was so fun to create that I also sewed a more traditional version.

Candy Bar Pinwheels

Have you seen the wonderful Moda Candy Bars? Similar to a Charm pack they are a cute stack of 2 1/2" x 5" prints from Moda fabric lines. I used one to create my Blissful Birds (shown in an early post) and then used the City Weekend candy bar to create Candy Bar Pinwheels. One candy bar, a little bit of orange and a little bit of white and wahla' you're done!

In My Pretty Garden

Last but not least is my newest applique quilt In My Pretty Garden. This design was inspired by a song my mother sang to me as a child, and in turn I sang to my darling Kaylee when she was small. Do you know the song?

I am in the MAD RUSH to get myself off to market Quilt Market in Houston on Thursday. Anyone who knows me knows that pushing it until the last minute is just the way I roll. I picked up the last of my new quilts from the Chelsea today and as usual she worked her magic, making my applique look great! Here is a sneak peak at the quilt, In My Pretty Garden.

So, today I have sewn the binding on two quilts, my cute Sis Holly is finishing the binding on a 3rd and now to work finishing my latest pin cushion, A Slice of Style. My mom is busy this very minute sewing the pin cushion kits for sample spree, and I am sure that my fabulous Bro-in-law, Clark, will be happy to be done with me for a while too. He does the typesetting of my books and the design of all my pattern covers and let's just say that waiting until the last minute is NOT the way he rolls. He's the best though and always comes through. Don't know what I would do without my family, I certainly would not be ready for market, that's for sure!

New Cross-stitch and punch needle kits are now ready to ship and this month I have designed an Autumn collection including November Expressions (379), Autumn Rick Rack Row (584), Falling for You (960) and November Blocks (PK23).

I am also including two new Christmas designs, Christmas Rick Rack Row (585) and Due to the popularity of the Good Witch or Bad Witch Side-By-Side pillow kit I am releasing another set titled Naughty or Nice (311)

The Rick Rack Row kits are a new style in my cross-stitch lineup. Each kit contains pre-sewn pillow sham made of beautiful fabrics and jumbo rick rack trim. Also included are DMC floss, tapestry needle and pattern of seasonal motifs and rick rack stitches.

I am now busy getting ready for Quilt market at the end of this month as well as my next cross-stitch release. Here is a preview of my new quilt pattern Fuzzy Caterpillar and there will be more designs as market approaches.

Blissfull Birds

I am among the crowd that simply LOVES turquoise and red so obviously I am a HUGE fan of Moda's Bliss line. Before the fabric arrived in the shop I snagged a Moda Candy Bar (2 1/2" x 5") and created Blissfull Birds. I hope you like :)

It is hard to believe that the past month has flown by and I am releasing more designs already. My daughter is back in school and so it just follows that Halloween is just around the corner.

Good Witch-Bad Witch is a first for me, a SIDE-BY-SIDE set of two pillows in one kit. And I can really relate to both of them, just ask my family - sometimes I'm the good witch and sometimes I'm bad.

Randy (my darling Husband) made the statement after I finished the new punch needle "this month it's all about the shoes huh?" He's right, every good witch, or bad witch just needs the right pair of shoes!

I decided to get out of the shoe rut and stitch up something wicked for October Expressions. This pillow design is really LOOKING spooky don't you think?

That's all for today. Tomorrow I get two quilts back from the quilter and I will be giving her another new one to quilt. LOOOVE my quilter - she's like Santa Claus, delivering the most wonderful goodies!

September Release

Checking my blog you would think I had nothing in the works for the past month. Not so.... September's new product release just shipped out to stores this past week.

Of course we always think of back to school........

and apples..... So, I got that out of my system and decided I wanted something different for my small pillow release

And I decided to focus on GIRLFRIENDS! I have a group of girlfriends I coud not survive without. The 2nd Friday of each month is set aside for GIRLS NIGHT OUT and it is filled with FUN and LAUGHTER. We have to select a restaurant that won't kick us out, as our meal usually drags on to last 3 or more hours. I am known return home at the end of the night with such terrible heartburn from laughing so much. Good Times!

In addition to my regular monthly release I added two new Halloween designs. After all, you can never have too much Halloween decorations, right.

Now on to quilting. I completed two new quilts that I cannot wait to get back from the quilter! Oh the anticipation......waiting for the call from Chelsea, telling me the quilting is finished, is like a child waiting for Christmas morning.

This is just a little teaser.....I can't wait to show the complete finished product. They are just what I love, FUNKY, FUN AND FAST!!!

New Dresden Plate Projects

Today I am sending off the models of my two new Dresden Plate projects that I created using charm packs provided to me by Nancy's Notions. The above pillow, Cherish Moments, uses Moda's Park Avenue by 3 Sisters, and has a floral embroidered center with the phrase Chrish Moments.

Deck The Halls dresden candle mat was made using Moda's Adoring by Sandy Gervais and has an embroidered Deck The Halls center.

Another Dresden Plate project in the works

I have been working today on a new Dresden Plate embroidery project for a catalog company. They sent me this beautiful Moda charm pack to use as a base for the embroidery design. There were so many beautiful prints left after making the dresden plate that I decided to include a table runner along with the project. So, my morning project turned into my morning, noon, and night project.
Hopefully tomorrow I can finish pu the pillow, send the runner off to the quilter and check this off my list. I do love making those check marks on my list :)

More Big Block Baby Quilts

Here are some pictures of a few more of the Big Block Baby Quilts I designed based on traditional quilt blocks from the Wasatch Front Shop Hop. Each quilt is made of a 36" center block and was sewn by a different Pine Needles employee who added their own flare.

Brie added fun ric-rack around this darling pink & brown quilt we call French Village
Wendy sewed this little Wheels quilt using Riley Blake's fun boy line.

Cecilia created 16 Squares & Counting using Martinique by Moda including the FABULOUS pin tuck aqua fabric that adds the perfect touch of texture.

Wendy also worked up a fun quilt from Moda's Tweet Tweet by Keiki and added jumbo ric-rack sewn in the binding.

Cowboy Star was made by Cecilia and is a must for any little buckaroo!

Summer Fans

Tomorrow is the beginnning of the Wasatch Front Shop Hop and I have been going CRAZY getting ready. I just finished piecing, quilting, binding, & writing instructions for this fun little quilt, Summer Fans. Riley Blake was SUPER kind and donated an entire line of Summer Song to the assocation. We cut the entire line up into charm squares and each store has designed a quilt using the set of charms. Summer Fans was my design for Pine Needles. Anyone that finishes the entire shop hop will receive a free Summer Song Charm Pack, plus they will have seen 15 different projects done using this set!

I am busy writing instructions for 15 new Big Block Baby Quilts. Still unsure of a name for this one.....any suggestions? Oh and all 15 patterns need to be complete by next Wednesday! You see, the Wasatch front Shop Hop begins then and the quilts will be on display at Pine Needles. Each store participating in the Shop Hop is focusing on a different reason to CELEBRATE and we are throwing a Baby Shower. So, I am going craaazy trying to get ready. That is no surprise for anyone who knows me well. I work best under pressure. I work best that way but drive everyone around me nuts. It's amazing though what I can accomplish with a bag of M&M's by my side and a couple of excedrin.

I cannot believe that it has been over a week since I returned from Quilt Market. It has taken me that long to catch my breath and get back in the swing of things. What a fun time we had! Holly, my sister, was busy buying for our store and returning to me with news of all the fabulous finds! I spent my days in the booth with my mom, sharing my quilts.Laundry Day my biggest debut for this market and I was so happy that so many liked it. It's scary to put yourself out there not knowing how people will react. I sold out of the books at Sample Spree and had 3 times as many printed when we got home to fill orders. It was such a fun quilt to make. I could finally say that I looked forward to doing my laundry.

So this was a market to Celebrate. That brings me to my latest table runner, CELEBRATE. The center diamonds and ice-cream cones are made using the folded faric technique that I used in my Hats off to Santa, and Hats off to Halloween runners. Easy Peasy!

This is my new Little Square Dance charm pack quilt. Blocks are made using an easy stack, slash & shuffle method. I used the new Kate Spain christmas charm pack because I simply don't love anything more than red and turquoise!

What do you think of this Funky quilt? Funky Flowers is made of stacked flowers of all the best Funky fabrics from Amy Butler and so many others. Raw edge applique makes it easy, jumbo ric-rac makes it fun, and funky fabrics make it pop!

Now of course I did not neglect my love for embroidery and I added to my line of pastry pin cushions with American Pie.

Well, that is it for now. Whew, what a blast, my mind is turning about what to work on next......

3 more days to go until I leave for Quilt market and I'm not done yet! I made a couple of dish towels for a free handout in our booth and I have had Randy working on cute clothes pin tags for the Sample Spree kits and booth treats. We're getting down to the wire and no time to waste so I better get back to work!

American Pie

I cannot believe that Quilt Market is only a week away! I am still busy working on new models (pictured here my new embroidery American Pie) and deciding on what to offer at Sample Spree. In the meantime we just shipped my May releases of cross-stitch, punch needle and embroidery.

Thank heavens I have such great family and friends to keep encouraging me and let me know it's all good, even when I am having a nervous breakdown.

BTW, I was featured this week on MODA BAKESHOP.

Still doing laundry

I am still working on my Laundry Day quilt and having so much fun designing the outfits. All my pieced rows are completed and I am half way through filling the 2nd of 3 laundry lines.

In between laundry I have finished the designing for June's punch and embroidery design, I have completed designing the cross-stitch small pillow kit and today I am determined to complete the design for the tie one on cross-stitch kit.

It is a good thing I have Randy to do the actual laundry and keep up with things around the house or things would be as messy as my sewing room, and that isn't pretty! I do love the confetti that is created when trimming the points for the pinwheel blocks, dont' you. Although it looked much nicer on my lap than spread out over the floor.

Laundry Day

Last night I started my new quilt LAUNDRY DAY and hung out the first dress. Then this morning I hung out a skirt to dry. I have many other things to do today but all I want to do is laundry. I don't think I've ever said that before :)

Today's work is a fun project! I am designing a new raw edge quilt with stacked flowers from the funkiest eclectic mix of fabrics! This is just a sneak peak - I actually just finished the project and now am ready to take it along with my Party Table Runner to the quilter. I think that this quilt will be a hit because I finished it, start to finish in only 2 1/2 hours!

Today I sent to Pine Needles my new quilt "Make Life Simply Silly". I used both the Make Life charm pack and their new Quilt labels. Raw edge applique, fantastic fabric covered Make Life buttons and this quilt is irresistably fun!

Happy Birthday to Me!

It is strictly coincidental but today is my birthday and I am busy working on my new table runner pattern. Quilt market is coming up faster than I would like and so I am busy working on new designs. I just wish my fingers could work as fast as my imagination!
